indefinite vicc

Here is another sentence with an indefinite object.

When I look at this picture I think how eager the first fish is to be friendly, and how irritated the second fish is. I immediately think that the first fish is saying the following:

Tegnap hallottam egy nagyon jó viccet.

Yesterday I heard a very good joke.

(It goes without saying: Yah dude, who’d you hear it from in the first place?)

Note that the word “vicc” has a double consonant. Both consonants are pronounced, so here it means the sound lingers a bit longer. In English we don’t pronounce both consonants when they are doubled, but in Hungarian we must.

So the word “viccet” is not pronounced “vitz-et.” It is instead pronounced “vitz-tzet.”
